Educational ASL Interpreters-General MAILING LIST INFORMATION & GUIDELINES
The MN Low Incidence Projects, a program that receives funding from the Minnesota Department of Education, maintains a number of Mailing Lists (formerly known as Listservs) that are forums dedicated to collaboration and best practices for students receiving special education services in Minnesota.
Subscription to the Statewide Educational ASL Interpreters Mailing List is available to Educational ASL Interpreters, as well as special education administrators and other interested educators. The Statewide Educational ASL Interpreters Mailing List allows users to share information and post questions to other members of the list. Some typical postings include requesting/sharing information about school services and supports, disability-specific information, professional development opportunities, resources, etc.

Complete requested fields below. After you have subscribed, bookmark and return to this site to post queries or responses, review guidelines, change subscriber information for yourself, or access archived postings. Use your school email address when subscribing, to indicate you are an educational ASL interpreter.
Professional Standards
To ensure the best possible experience for all Mailing List members, basic guidelines for participation have been established.
STANDARDS FOR USE
1.
Accessible format: Follow guidelines for creating accessible eMails from Minnesota's Office of Accessibility. Guidelines are the same for all email platforms, procedures may differ.
2.
Identity-First Vs. Person-First Language:: Consider language in which people prefer. Some groups are person-first, especially those with medical conditions (e.g., a person with developmental/cognitive disabilities), while some prefer identity-first language (e.g., Deaf or DeafBlind). Please be considerate of the terms and language used while posting to the list.
3.
Confidentiality: Communications should not include information that could be used to identify any student, family member, staff, or school. The number of students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing who utilize educational interpreter services is very small and all measures must be taken to protect data privacy. The moderator may assist you in modifying your post to ensure confidentiality.
4.
Positive posting: All communications should demonstrate respect, trust, and sincere appreciation for differing viewpoints, backgrounds, and interests.
5.
No Individual Messages: Do not use the Mailing List to communicate with one person. Examples: "Thank you for that tip" or "I want you to send me a copy." Send individual messages via personal email.
6.
Copyright: Members should observe limitations on sharing copyrighted materials.
7.
Subject Lines: For ease of use, subject lines should be short and clearly describe the topic. A limit of 40 characters is recommended. Remember to change the subject line when the conversation changes.
8.
Message Content: Strive to keep messages clear and brief.
9.
Acronyms: Please use the whole phrase upon the first use in a message.
10.
Links and Attachments: Hyperlinks and attachments should only be from trusted sources in order to prevent the spread of computer viruses and other malicious software.
11.
Professional Learning Opportunities: These opportunities may be shared on the list. Members may share a professional learning opportunity once per event. Posts should not be seen as endorsements by either the MN Low Incidence Projects or the MN Department of Education.
12.
Employment Opportunities: Postings of low incidence employment opportunities are encouraged.
13.
Vendors and Products: Vendors may post new product marketing information on the Mailing List once per product. Members are encouraged to share useful features and describe specific challenges with a product. However, members should avoid making general judgments about products.
14.
Lobbying and Fundraising: The list is not to be used for lobbying or fundraising.
15.
Guideline Agreement: As members of the MN.interpreters – Educational ASL Interpreters Mailing List, you agree that you have read and will abide by these guidelines. Mailing List membership may be terminated for those who violate these guidelines.

prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once
confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval
by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's
decision by email. This is also a hidden list, which means that the
list of members is available only to the list administrator.
